2nd Indian Cryosphere Meet, ICM-2025

The 2nd Indian Cryosphere Meet (ICM) 2025, held on 14th and 15th February at IIT Bombay, successfully brought together around 80 participants across institutions and research organizations such as IIT Roorkee, IIT Madras, IIT Ropar, IIT Indore, IISER Pune, IIT Kharagpur, IISER Bhopal, IISc Bangalore, University of Kashmir, National Institute of Hydrology Roorkee, National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research Goa, TERI School of Advanced Studies, CIIRS-Jyothi Institute of Technology, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, JIS University, and Acres of Ice, along with international researchers from institutes like Dartmouth College, Université Catholique de Louvain, and the Institute of Science and Technology Austria. The event featured oral and poster presentations from researchers, alongside group discussions and interactive sessions covering critical topics such as glacier monitoring and observations, cryosphere hazards, climate modeling, and policy interventions in the context of the Himalayas.

The concept of the Indian Cryosphere Meet originated from the Monthly Indian Glaciology Meet (MIGM) started in 2021—a monthly online gathering where researchers discussed recent advancements in glaciology and other cryosphere sciences. During these virtual meetings, the idea emerged to host a two-day, semi-formal meeting (ICM) that would bring together students and scientists for in-depth discussions on cryosphere research. The first ICM was hosted by IIT Ropar in 2024, and since then, the platform has been fostering collaboration and innovation in the field.

It was also announced that ICM 2026 will be hosted at IIT Roorkee, reinforcing ongoing efforts in cryospheric science.
