Under the laws of the UK, the International Glaciological Society is classified as a ‘Learned Society’ and a ‘Not for Profit’ organisation. And as such we registered as a ‘Charity’. Being a charity has several benefits but also restriction. Our governance has to comply with the rules and regulations of the ‘Charity Commission’ and we have to submit an ‘Annual report’ that includes a signed copy of our ‘Financial statements’ and the ‘Council of management’s report’. The ‘Financial statements’ and parts of the ‘Council of management’s report’ are posted on the Charity Commission’s website for all to see.
