ACDC-GRISO summer school 2023: Past and future changes in Greenland climate
The Advanced Climate Dynamics Courses (ACDC) and the Greenland Ice Sheet Ocean science network (GRISO) will host a joint summer school at Arctic Station in Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland, from 20th August to 2nd September 2023.
The topic is “Past and Future Changes in Greenland Climate”. Through lectures and group work the summer school will cover science areas including Greenland Ice Sheet dynamics, ice sheet history, atmospheric dynamics, ice sheet-climate interaction, North Atlantic/Arctic oceanography, fjord dynamics, ice-ocean interactions, regional climate history and proxies. There will also be opportunities for hiking and to experience oceanographic data and sediment core collection. More broadly, the summer school aims to develop skills in cross-discipline collaboration and communication, and to build a strong and healthy early-career science network.
Confirmed lecturers so far include Fiamma Straneo, Kerim Nisancioglu, Donald Slater, David Battisti and Camilla Andresen.
The target audience for the summer school is advanced graduate (PhD) students, and applications from those who have recently completed PhDs will also be considered. We are able to accommodate around 20 students.
Applications are now open and will close on 15 March 2023. We encourage applications from Greenland-based students and underrepresented minority groups.
Full information including costs and details of how to apply can be found on both the ACDC website (https://www.uib.no/en/rs/acdc/160261/acdcgriso-2023) and GRISO website (https://griso.ucsd.edu/acdc-griso-summer-school-2023-past-and-future-changes-in-greenland-climate/).
We hope to see some of you this summer!
