Council Nominations
Every year the IGS Council asks the IGS Nominations Committee to compile a list of candidates to ensure a slate of nominees to fill the positions of Council Members and Officers whose terms are about to expire.
This is done to ensure there are always enough candidates to fill all vacated positions. The Committee applies Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principles in considering whom to nominate for IGS governance positions. These principles, valued at the highest level, ensure that the IGS governance represents diversity of international representation, region, language and ethnic composition, career stage, scientific sub-disciplines within the broadly conceived discipline of glaciology, and gender balance.
Once the slate has been prepared it is circulated among members and further nominations are invited from the IGS membership.
Any Member may propose other candidates for election, but such nominations, supported by at least ten Members of
the Society, must reach the Secretary General five clear weeks before the Annual General Meeting.
