International Advanced Training Course on Snow and Avalanches ‘Practice meets science’

Dear Sir or Madam, dear colleagues

In 2015, 2017 and 2019, the SLF organized an international training course offering the unique opportunity to learn about snow and avalanches with a particular focus on latest research results. Due to the corona pandemic, the course could not be held since then.

The course will take place again in February 2023. The motto of the course is “Practice meets science“. A mixture of lectures and hands-on activities will allow you to acquire new knowledge and expertise. You will improve your observational skills in the field and your analytical capabilities in data interpretation and will be able to integrate novel techniques and methods into your daily work. The course applies to people with good basic knowledge and experience in the field of snow and avalanches. The international setting will allow for a unique exchange among practitioners with various backgrounds and with avalanche experts from the SLF. The course will be held in two modules. Module 1: Snow stability and avalanche forecasting. Module 2: Avalanche safety and control.

Who: avalanche forecasters, avalanche specialists and consultants, avalanche instructors, avalanche hazard managers for infrastructure, avalanche control services, representatives of institutions, private services and associations.
