Andrew Fowler has provided the following advice.
1. The icebreaker on Sunday will be from 7.30 to 9, and is NOT in the Kemmy Business School, but in the Scholars’ bar which is located in the Stables complex (16 on the campus map, which you will also have a hard copy of in your conference bag). Wine, beer and soft drinks will be provided, along with finger food. Following the reception, the bar will open (drinks must be pirchased) and will stay open till 11 at latest.
2. For those on the pre-symposium excursion, the bus for the Skelligs will leave at 7 sharp on Sunday morning from the road outside the Stables. You will probably receive advice that they aim to leave at 6.30, but this is not my advice, although leaving earlier may be a good idea. Note also that it is a 15 minute walk from Cappavilla to the Stables, where the bus goes from. It is a 20 minute walk from the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel.
The weather forecast for Sunday is not great according to one of the boat owners; if it is too bad, they make a decision at 7 a.m. based on conditions on the islands whether to sail. If they do not sail, you should receive a refund for the cost of the boat (€125). We then have the option of making an alternative day out trip, and we will plan for this contingency. If the boats do not go, you will have to decide whether to take the day trip or not. We have a list of those on the boat, but I suggest you send me (andrew.fowler@ul.ie) an email to confirm you’re on the boat, and also to provide a phone number in case you are late for the bus. My phone number is 00 353 89 501 3895, which may also be useful on the mid-week excursion.
